Teak Garden Benches
Have you thought about redecorating your patio this season? Perhaps you want to buy new furniture but have some pieces you’d like to keep and work into your new design. In fact, maybe you have a piece that you particularly love and want to build your entire setup around it. For example, an old teak garden bench can be restored and used as a focal point in your patio décor. If you are working with a teak bench, you will most likely want to match it with other teak outdoor furniture. However, before you pick out your new items, you’ll want to restore your current bench so that you can properly match the color and grain of what you have. The best way to start reparation of any teak furniture is to sand it aggressively with medium grade sandpaper. This will remove aged wood that has been damaged or changed by the elements. Beneath these outward layers, you’ll find an excellent piece of furniture, since teak is quite weather resistant.
Next, you’ll want to use a fine grain piece of sandpaper to smooth out any rough edges and remove any splinters or other errant pieces of wood that have been exposed with age and wear. What you’ll have remaining is a restored piece of furniture with its natural coloration and grain that you can use for comparison when picking out your new teak wood furniture.
Now that you’ve determined your centerpiece for decorating inspiration and restored it, how will you work it into your lawn and garden décor? Perhaps you’ll place the bench on your patio with the new furniture, resting against the wall of the house, mostly for show. You may also wish to display it front and center, surrounded by other chairs so that it is the main piece in the design. One suggestion is to form your garden around it and place it right in the center of a beautiful patch of flowers as garden décor, where you can simply sit and enjoy the fruits of your labors.
Another way to enjoy your teak bench now that it’s restored is to match it up with one of the teak wooden picnic tables you have purchased and use it as seating for that table. You can even place it in the front yard as a precursor to the main furnishings that are found in the backyard or place it under a tree on the side of your property as an observation point or a place to be alone. Obviously, there is no end to the number of ways you can incorporate your bench into the new design, whether as a main attraction or an accent piece among your other garden patio furniture.
